Beverly D. Stakes Picks and Preview
In a big field of 14, French-bred Sea Calisi has been made a solid 7-5 morning line favorite for the 2016 Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington.
This will be the third straight start on this side of the pond for Sea Calisi, after starting her career in France where she was a Group 2 winner a year ago. She then tried her hand in the upper level in the UK, where she managed a pair of third-place finishes. Since coming over to the US in May, she easily won her debut in the (G2) Sheepshead Bay at Belmont, and last out ran second in the (G2) New York Stakes just behind a very good filly in Dacita.
Breaking to her outside is another who started her career overseas in Faufiler (6-1) but who has a handful of races on her US resume, including a win last out over the Arlington Turf in the (G3) Modesty Handicap. Down on the rail Ballydoyle is the second choice in the ML at 9-2. She has a Group 1 win and a pair of runner up finishes to her name, but she ran poorly last out in her US debut in the Belmont Oaks Invitational as the favorite. She could benefit from the cutback in distance here. Trainer Aiden O'Brien has a second entry in the field in Coolmore (6-1), who ran third in that one after running just off the pace-setter, and she too could benefit being asked to go shorter here.
The Beverly D. Stakes goes Saturday, August 13 from Arlington Park. Post time is 5:21 PM Eastern.
