On Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs, the track will host the $100,000 Suncoast Stakes. Restricted to three-year-old fillies, the race will be held at a mile and forty yards and has drawn a wide open field of twelve.
Cosmic Girl has been tabbed as the favorite at morning line odds of 3-1 and is one of two horses in the race for trainer Eoin Harty. A bay daughter of Street Cry (IRE), she is out of the multiple Grade 1 winning mare Stellar Jayne. She has been on the board in three of her five starts and is trying to earn her third career victory. She is coming out of a runner-up effort in the Gasparilla Stakes and will break from post position seven under jockey Fernando De La Cruz.
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Smart Shopping for trainer Brendan Walsh. A bay daughter of Smart Strike, she comes from a strong female family and will be stepping up to stakes company after breaking her maiden in her debut at Churchill Downs in November. She has been training forwardly since then and will have Robby Albarado aboard from post eleven.
Also in the field at morning line odds of 6-1 is Holders Season for trainer Todd Pletcher. Purchased for $280,000 as a yearling, she will be making her stakes debut after breaking her maiden last time out at Gulfstream Park in her third career start. She turned in a game effort to win by a neck. Javier Castellano will remain aboard and they will break from post position six.
