Positive Side is The Class of The Arlington Sprint Stakes
Certainly, there are bigger races elsewhere in the country July 5, but the $75,000 Arlington Sprint Stakes is not without intrigue as eight runners are signed on to contest the five and half furlong turf event.
Positive Side, the 5/2 second choice on the morning line is clearly the class of the race after running in three consecutive grade III turf sprints placing second in Keeneland’s Shakertown and third in Churchill’s Twin Spires, before an eighth place effort in the Jaipur Stakes at Belmont. The Grant Forster trainee will be ridden by Emmanuel Esquivel and should be an imposing figure for his seven rivals if he returns to form.
Saint Leon assumes ML favoritism
Saint Leon is the 2/1 morning line favorite and will break from post position five for trainer Michele Boyce after back to back second place finishes in allowance company at Arlington Park. The nine year-old gelding has shown an affinity for the Arlington Park lawn over the years. Another intriguing contender is the lightly race Anyriderill Do (5/1 ML) who will break from the two hole for trainer Ronny Werner.
Anyriderill Do passes the class test
Anyriderill Do also exits the Jaipur Stakes where he managed a sixth place finish in a very contentious field. The four year-old son of Street Hero will be making his ninth lifetime start and will be searching for his first win since January 2013. Law Dog is a sharp horse at a price (20/1 ML) and steps up in class after consecutive wins in turf sprints in the claiming ranks.
