On Saturday at Los Alamitos Race Course, the track will host the 34th running of the $350,000 Starlet Stakes. Held at a mile and a sixteenth for two-year-old fillies, the Grade 1 race had previously been run at Hollywood Park.
Take Charge Brandi headlines the field of seven juvenile fillies as the 9-5 morning line favorite. Trained by D. Wayne Lukas, the chestnut daughter of Giant’s Causeway pulled off a major upset in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) and followed that up with a win in the Delta Princess (G3). She will be going for her third consecutive graded stakes victory. Victor Espinoza will be back aboard and they will break from post position six.
Feathered trying to improve off of fourth in Juvenile Fillies
Todd Pletcher will saddle Feathered as the second choice at 2-1 on the morning line. Purchased for $300,000 in March, the bay daughter of Indian Charlie is trying to earn her first stakes win. She broke her maiden in her second career start and since then was third in the Frizette (G1) and fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). She has been training steadily since the Breeders’ Cup and will have Mike Smith up from post four.
Majestic Presence going for first graded stakes win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 8-1 is Majestic Presence, one of two horses for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. After breaking her maiden in her second career start, she is trying to earn her first stakes victory. Last time out, she finished third behind Take Charge Brandi in the Delta Princess (G3) after finishing a distant ninth in the Juvenile Fillies (G1). Gary Stevens has picked up the mount and they will break from post five.
